Ministers Malcolm Wicks and Jim Mather confirmed to address conference

Over 300 delegates will attend BWEA Marine 08, sponsored by SeaRoc UK
. The event, which is the world’s largest dedicated wave and tidal stream energy conference, will be held in Edinburgh on Thursday 28th February 2008, and will address key issues affecting the development of wave and tidal stream energy in the UK.

Conference programme

The conference sessions will include:

  • Opening session
    Welcome: Maria McCaffery, Chief Executive, BWEA
    Malcolm Wicks, Minister for Energy, BERR
    Jim Mather MSP, Scottish Government
    David Clarke, Chief Executive, Energy Technologies Institute

  • UK Marine Renewables: Energy or Industry?
    This panel debate will place senior Government figures beside industry leaders and commentators, to discuss the likely success of the Government’s policy support for marine renewables, both in terms of energy production and UK industrial creation.
  • Managing the Risks
    How are the risks of developing marine renewable energy projects viewed by those that invest and support them? Speakers will put forward the case for insuring, maintaining and operating projects. 
  • Global Market Opportunities
    How are marine renewables being supported in other countries? An international session with ministerial speakers from countries including Portugal, Spain, British Columbia and Taiwan.
